Become familiar with the location of all the components of your septic system.

Do not allow motor vehicles or heavy equipment to drive over any part of your underground system.  The underground pipes could be crushed or broken which could stop the operation of your system.

Do not plant trees or shrubs on or near the system.  Their roots could enter the pipes within the system and clog them completely.

Do not overload your septic system.  For best-service cooking fats and grease should be disposed of with the garbage or trash.   If these substances are poured into a kitchen sink they tend to cause trouble since they harden in the pipes and increase the scum layer in the septic tank.

Do not allow any nonbiodegradable materials to go into your septic system. Items such as oil, grease, disposable diapers, baby/adult wipes, cigarette filters, plastic products, sanitary napkins, window wipes, etc. should never enter your septic system.  These items do not decompose and can close the septic system pipes.

Failure to clean the tank when it is needed will allow solids and scum to pass into the drain fields or seepage pits.  Solids and scum can clog the seepage area and force sewage to the surface of the ground.  This creates a hazard to the health of your family and neighbors. Also, when your septic system fails plumbing facilities will not drain properly.

Flushing chemicals or yeast into the system will not reduce the solids in the tank.  THIS IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR CLEANING!!!

After the septic tank is cleaned we recommend our septic additive be placed into the tank, this will reactivate the bacteria process in the septic tank.

Neglecting your septic system or having it cleaned improperly can be very expensive to repair.

The money saved by lack of maintenance is lost very quickly when you must repair or replace your septic system.

The septic tank should be cleaned every  1-2 years depending upon the usage, amount of persons living in the home, ground conditions, and age of the septic system.
